Get away from it all and unwind at this comfortable riverfront vacation retreat. Located in a quiet neighborhood, Thurston Point Cottage offers a relaxing atmosphere with spectacular sunset views over the Annisquam River. You might choose to sip a cool drink on one of the large porches and watch the boats go by or drive into downtown Gloucester or nearby Rockport to explore shops, restaurants, waterfront, and a vibrant arts scene. Either way, you'll enjoy the perfect summer escape! Recently added (in 2024) mini-splits keep the house cool in the summer and warm in the shoulder seasons.

Swim and kayak from the property or even fish off the deepwater dock, which can accommodate boats up to 18' and has a ladder on the side to make it easy to get in and out of the river for a refreshing swim. For the full river experience, ask us about renting a Kayak or Stand-Up Paddleboard through Atlantic Vacation Homes.

What does my rented vacation home provide?


Since all Atlantic Vacation Homes rental properties are residential homes, and not hotel rooms, they are all fully furnished and include a living room, kitchen, and bedrooms and bathrooms as described on each property detail page.


  • The kitchen includes cooking utensils, pots & pans, dishcloths, potholders, flatware, dishware, glassware and a corkscrew. Standard appliances include a refrigerator, microwave, stove, toaster, and coffee maker. Some properties are equipped with additional items; please refer to the full amenity list for your specific property. If you require specialty items, such as kitchen scales or food processors, it is best to bring your own.

  • Bed linens and bath linens (bath towels, hand towels and face cloths) are provided in accordance with the advertised occupancy of the property. Beds will be made with linens, pillows, blankets, and bedspreads prior to your arrival, with the exception of trundles, top bunks, futons, and sleep sofas.

  • The property includes basic housekeeping supplies, such as brooms and dustpans.

  • Many (but not all) properties have a landline for local calls. Please refer to the full amenity list for your specific property.

  • Air conditioning, beach towels, hot tubs, TVs, DVD players, porch furniture, grills, docks, recreational games and equipment, and other amenities are furnished as a courtesy by the homeowner and are not guaranteed. Please refer to the full amenity list for your specific property for details.

Guests will also receive a “Welcome Kit” that contains:


  • An area guide

  • One kitchen sponge

  • One small bottle of dish soap

  • One dishwasher detergent pod or packet

  • One laundry detergent pod or packet

  • One trash bag

In addition, the complimentary items below are provided as a convenient starter supply for when you first arrive. Additional items beyond the starter supply are the responsibility of the guest.

Love this place

We have been here twice. It's truly a gem. Sitting on the dock or in the rocking chairs—it all works. It's just a place to create magical summer memories. And the service from Atlantic Vacation Homes is exceptional. We have no real complaints, but if the owner would consider adding an outdoor shower and providing a few kayaks, both would be welcome additions.

Beautiful Annisquam River vacation home

Thurston Point Cottage was the perfect place to relax, swim, and kayak. We even kayaked down to Mile Marker One for lunch and up to Wingaersheek for the beach. It was a treat having our own dock and the house had everything we needed. We mostly had dinners at wonderful Gloucester restaurants, so didn't do much cooking. But we made breakfasts and some lunches and it was very well appointed. The king sized bed was quite comfortable and we loved having three different types of porches for sitting outside and enjoying meals or coffee or beer or wine. There were plenty of towels and dishes and everything was so clean and well organized when we arrived. Truly a pleasure.

Precious Charming Cottage

I couldn't possible speak higher about this precious spot. Talk about idyllic! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Everything was very clean and well appointed. My husband loved it so much, that we canceled our final dinner plans and grilled up some steaks instead just to enjoy as much time there as possible. Please keep this as a rental as I'd give my eye teeth to be able to stay here again.

Wonderful Week

Relaxing and surrounded by Tranquility.

A summer family vacation that was much anticipated. The weather was sunny and warm during the day and cool at night without a/c. Beds were comfortable and plenty of towels supplied. During the day we enjoyed the beach and the evenings were spent Stripper fishing from the dock. A wonderful family vacation had by all in Gloucester on the Annisquam River.

Had a lovely time. A perfect vacation cottage. The location is wonderful and the house charming. I know the owners talk about updating the kitchen but I love it. Has everything a cook needs. Perhaps the single bed could be updated? Ok for a child but not good for adult backs.

The Cottage You Never Want to Leave

I loved the space inside this cottage. I felt at home right away. Such caring thoughtfulness has gone into every detail. All of our needs were anticipated and fulfilled.The seaside colors each room was decorated with. Could catch the sun and the breezes from the porches; from the big one with six rocking chairs facing the Annisquam, to the two screened ones for smaller occasions. It was great to have the washer and dryer in the kitchen. An abundance of linens and bedding options. Yard nicely landscaped. I liked watching the different boats go to and from the harbor, and watching the birds--the egrets, cormorants, seagulls, mockingbirds, blue birds, sparrows going about their lives. Beautiful.

Absolute bliss!

We owe Georgia at AVH a huge thanks for recommending Thurston House for our summer vacation in July. We had wanted to be directly on the Ocean but Georgia described the river and Thurston House and we decided to go with it. I can't tell you how delighted we were when we arrived to see a very quaint and romantic cottage with a large verandah and peaceful views. The photos on the website do not do this cottage justice. We spent our days swimming off the dock, cycling to Gloucester and Rockport, dining and reading on the verandah. We made gourmet dinners each night and although the kitchen is quaintly dated, it was well appointed and had everything we needed. Thank you to AVH! We hope to return next year.
So glad that you enjoyed Thurston Point! It truly is a lovely place that has all the amenities, but still retains its original charm and romantic atmosphere. Peace and Quiet

Peaceful, quiet, care free--that's how I would describe our stay at Thurston Point Cottage. The cottage was simple, but offered everything we needed to get away and relax for the week. The sunsets were amazing. The kayaking and swimming in Annisquam River was refreshing. And the proximity to shopping, restaurants, etc. just made it all that much better. Thank you for a wonderful stay and fine hospitality.

A peaceful retreat

Our stay at Thurston Point Cottage was my gift to myself for finishing cancer treatment, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The house is cozy, with a lovely retro kitchen and vintage furniture. The view is stunning, especially the sunsets. We spent our days in rocking chairs on the porch, watching egrets and cormorants skim the river. When we felt energetic, we took the kayaks out and paddled along the shoreline. On cooler days we sat in the screened porch and played board games. It was so different from our busy (and, lately, dramatic) daily life. and really gave us a chance to relax and recharge.
We are so pleased that you found a comforting respite at Thurston Point and good for you for treating yourself after such a difficult ordeal. Thurston Point is a gem especially for the views and access to the beautiful Annisquam River. We hope all goes well for you and that you come back and visit us soon! AVH staff
