Nestled in a cul de sac and fronting on the Crane River, Afternoon Delight in historic Beverly is the perfect place to watch the river currents glide by. The riverfront wraparound deck offers a blissful place to sit or dine in either sun or shade, thanks to an exterior awning. There is also a gas grill and additional outdoor seating. In the garden, the lower terrace is fully fenced in and has a grape arbor for relaxation in the pleasant shade.

Inside, the carpeted living room has windows on 3 sides, providing an amazing view of the changing river scene. The kitchen has been freshly updated and fully equipped in 2024, and there are three bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor and has an adjacent bath with a shower that has grab bars. Guests with mobility issues will also appreciate that the front door is flanked by a handle for grasping (if stability is needed) and there is just one small step to get in to the house from the driveway. Central air keeps the house temperate throughout.

If you love the water, you will appreciate that this home includes two kayaks and life jackets that are available for guest use.

This waterfront vacation rental home provides easy access to Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester by the Sea, Ipswich, Newburyport, Salem, Marblehead and Boston. The house is also conveniently located near Salem State University, Landmark School, Bishop Fenwick High School, Gordon College, and Endicott College, offering students, their families, or anyone at all a comfortable and lovely home base convenient to endless local delights.

What does my rented vacation home provide?


Since all Atlantic Vacation Homes rental properties are residential homes, and not hotel rooms, they are all fully furnished and include a living room, kitchen, and bedrooms and bathrooms as described on each property detail page.


  • The kitchen includes cooking utensils, pots & pans, dishcloths, potholders, flatware, dishware, glassware and a corkscrew. Standard appliances include a refrigerator, microwave, stove, toaster, and coffee maker. Some properties are equipped with additional items; please refer to the full amenity list for your specific property. If you require specialty items, such as kitchen scales or food processors, it is best to bring your own.

  • Bed linens and bath linens (bath towels, hand towels and face cloths) are provided in accordance with the advertised occupancy of the property. Beds will be made with linens, pillows, blankets, and bedspreads prior to your arrival, with the exception of trundles, top bunks, futons, and sleep sofas.

  • The property includes basic housekeeping supplies, such as brooms and dustpans.

  • Many (but not all) properties have a landline for local calls. Please refer to the full amenity list for your specific property.

  • Air conditioning, beach towels, hot tubs, TVs, DVD players, porch furniture, grills, docks, recreational games and equipment, and other amenities are furnished as a courtesy by the homeowner and are not guaranteed. Please refer to the full amenity list for your specific property for details.

Guests will also receive a "Welcome Kit" that contains:

  • One small bottle of dish soap

  • One dishwasher detergent pod or packet

In addition, the complimentary items below are provided as a convenient starter supply for when you first arrive. Additional items beyond the starter supply are the responsibility of the guest.

2 Twin/Single

This bedroom contains two Twin beds and A/C. The bedroom has room-darkening Levolor cellular blinds.

Ground floor bathroom with a walk-in shower that has a shower seat and grab bars.

The second-floor bathroom features a large soaking tub (no shower).

Living Room

A sunny room with windows on 3 sides, the living room contains 2 sofas, a power recliner, a flat-screen smart TV equipped with YouTube TV streaming with Roku, and a gas fireplace. The couch and loveseat with matching ottoman were newly added in 2024.

Kitchen

The kitchen has abundant counter and food prep space. The dining area is off of the kitchen and has a water view. To the left of the kitchen is a small home office or study area and a closet with a stacked full-sized washer and dryer is opposite the workspace. The kitchen was newly updated in 2024 with new cabinetry and quartz countertops, new fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and gas range. There is also a new stainless steel double sink with a Delta gooseneck faucet with pull down sprayer.

Fabulous Again

This is the first time we were ever pleasantly surprised that the pictures did NOT do justice. This property is pristine, it's beautifully located and as homey as can be. We absolutely loved it and will stay again! There was only 1 issue and that was that there is only 1 shower in the house and we had 4 adults getting ready for a wedding:-) The oversized tub upstairs is a wonderful soaking tub, though!!

What a fabulous house, right by the river, the balcony is the perfect place to sit and relax with the beverage of your choice (mine's a gin and tonic). Quiet neighbourhood, friendly locals. Conveniently situated to explore the local area, Boston an easy drive away. Well stocked as regards cutlery, crockery, utensils etc. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Cozy Home in Beautiful Setting

We have stayed in several VRBO properties and this is home was among one of the cleanest. There is definite pride of ownership! The location was perfect for us and the deck overlooking the water was an added bonus. Communications were excellent and immediate with rental agency. The only downside was the pillows - a bit flat for all of us, but that is a preference, perhaps. Will stay here again, most definitely! Thank you:)

Amazing find!

30 minute drive into the heart of Boston. It was the perfect location to see Boston, feel the peace outside the city and only a stones throw away from Salem. The river front was our favorite part. Master suite is ground level. Other two rooms upstairs. This gave a nice privacy from the master suite to the other rooms.

This rental offered by AVH lives up to its name. We have rented it once before (a few years ago) and it has been maintained so well. It’s clean, has clear instructions, plenty of room, great internet, and a perfect spot because you’re on the water but can walk to a nearby park! We will definitely stay again!

Such a wonderful place

My family and I spent a week at the house and we loved every minute. The house feels like a home away from home. It's easy to find everything you need to cook and clean. The couches are comfy and the deck is that extra touch that makes it all worth it. The bathrooms were clean and in good condition. Perfect place, fantastic people

My husband, children and my parents stayed at this house rental for 9 days and I can't say enough good things about it! The kids LOVED it, loved the river and house itself. My husband and I fell in love with the views and the town of Beverly. The location was peaceful and quiet, yet things to do were close by. The house was super clean and had great furniture throughout, which is hard to find in vacation rentals. The property management team was exceptional and professional. The mobile phone app for the property was great to have and very, very helpful. The only thing I can "complain" about is the checkout time. It's at 10:00am and it would have been nice to have a noon checkout. If the management could figure that out, it would be a great bonus 🙂 All in all, great, great house/location/management, which complemented our fantastic visit to Boston. We can't wait to come back!

Best Way to End the Summer

We rented Afternoon Delight the last week in August. The house is beautiful! Well equipped, clean, comfortable and a wonderful view from the back deck. The location was terrific - just 30 minuted from everyplace we wanted to go (beaches, Boston, shopping). We had a terrific week and look forward to renting this place again!

Total delight

For us it was a great vacation house. Location is not Rockport but this is a gem with more conveniences. I give it 6 stars out of 5 overall but it is not your total 'getaway' beach house and it is not meant to be that, just in case you are looking for that. It is a wonderful, fantastic property and I cannot say enough about it. I look forward to going back in the future.
