The Gloucester Schooner Festival is THE maritime event of the year in Gloucester! This 3-day festival over Labor Day Weekend brings sailors, spectacular schooners, and enthusiastic spectators from all over the world. The Schooner Festival celebrates Gloucester’s maritime history and honored status as America’s Oldest Seaport.
All eyes will be on Gloucester’s beautiful harbor, which was once described by explorer Samuel de Champlain as “Le Beauport,” as it fills with majestic schooners and untold numbers of other boats and watercraft. The Parade of Sail is one of the weekend’s highlights, as schooners scheduled to participte in the Mayor’s Race pass through the harbor and out past Eastern Point.
Organized by the Gloucester Schooner Festival Committee and Maritime Gloucester, the schedule includes the Maritime Gloucester Gala, a Lobster Bake, free exhibits at Maritime Gloucester, boat parades, fireworks and of course, the Mayor’s Race off Eastern Point for the Esperanto Cup, Ned Cameron Trophy and Betty Ramsey Trophy.
