Fall is a great time to take a weekend getaway with family or friends. While the weather may be cooling off, there’s still a cornucopia of seasonal activities to do while visiting Cape Ann. Staying in one of our vacation rental homes will keep you close by where the activities happen to be. We love Cape Ann in the fall because of the beautiful change of foliage colors, but there are many things we love to do and places to explore throughout the season.
Fall Foliage Day Trips & Trails
There is nothing more beautiful than the stunning tapestry of fall colors created by the changing autumn leaves throughout the season. Cape Ann makes a wonderful home base for fall foliage day trips by car or by foot. Take the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway for a scenic drive from Cape Ann along the North Shore coastline, or go for a walk or hike the trails with your family at nearby places to view the spectacular cascade of fall colors, such as:
Local Seasonal Food
The fall harvest provides a new crop of autumnal favorites – apples, pumpkins, cider, cider donuts – just to name a few. During the months of September and October, there are many family-fun seasonal activities to do like heading over to Russell Orchards where you can pick your own apples or stop by Marshall’s Farm Stand, Seaview Farm and Farm Stand, or Utopia Farms to pick up locally-grown produce and other grocery items.
Take the family to the local Cape Ann farmers markets. Most of the weekly markets are open until mid- to the end of October where you can buy locally-grown organic produce, other food items and handmade crafts, listen to music, or participate in kids activities.
With your bushels of apples and other delicious goodies, make of the most of your getaway by preparing your favorite fall treats, like caramel apples or applesauce, or prepare a fall harvest feast back at your vacation rental for all to enjoy.
The fall colors are going to be beautiful this year as always and coming to the Cape Ann area will allow you to see those trees turn beautiful colors. Taking pictures to remember this trip can last a long time, or share on Instagram with your friends and family.
