Brackenbury Beach (Beverly MA)

Beverly’s Brackenbury Beach is a small sandy strip of shore nestled between two private beaches on Brackenbury Lane. The beach is most popularly known for its sands’ high magnetite content. Magnetite is a ferrous metal, so if you run a magnet through the sand, the black flakes of magnetite will adhere to it.

Brackenbury Beach is a great spot to bring any young, budding scientists in your family, as well as anyone who enjoys relaxing in the sun and swimming. Recently, shifting currents have diluted the sands’ magnetite content, but the magnet experiment still works. Please be advised that there is no lifeguard on duty and parking is extremely limited.
