Things to Do on Cape Ann

Situated less than 30 minutes from the Atlantic Vacation Homes office and neighboring historic Salem, the picturesque seaside city of Beverly, Massachusetts is well worth the trip. Beverly is well within driving range of your Cape Ann or Beverly vacation rental and can easily be added in on your day trip to Salem or other North Shore locations. It is another perfect destination north of Boston for you and your family to visit with plenty of activities, historic landmarks, beautiful beaches and exciting places to explore. Here are just a few reasons why Beverly is a destination location to add to your travel list.

The Garden City

From its early settlement, the area now known as Beverly was originally part of Salem. After becoming a town in 1635, Beverly prospered and went on to develop a rich history as a thriving and active city. Beverly played an important maritime role in the Revolutionary War and became a desirable summer vacation destination for notable wealthy families. Even President William Howard Taft and his family were summer residents on Beverly’s "Gold Coast." Offering both quiet comfort and a bit of city life, Beverly has the perfect mix for anyone looking for a break from their day-to-day. Appropriately called “The Garden City,” Beverly boasts miles of beautiful coastline, parks, and open spaces to explore.

The Arts & Music Scene

Beverly has a vibrant arts community serving as one of North Shore’s hubs for artists and musicians, with many artists’ studios and galleries. Montserrat College of Art, located in the heart of Downtown Beverly, has a large role in sustaining the unique art scene. Montserrat’s 301 Gallery is one of the local galleries featuring contemporary art from international artists. Another gallery to visit is Porter Mill Studios featuring up to fifty working artists and their studios. Be sure to catch their monthly exhibition of contemporary art.

Looking to catch live music, a movie, or a theatrical production on the North? Beverly is home to three top-notch performing arts venues featuring local risings stars and internationally renowned musicians –– The Cabot, Northshore Music Theatre, and The Larcom.

Places to Eat

After a day of exploring Beverly by land or by water, you may have built up quite an appetite. The area has several unique restaurants that are some of the local’s favorite haunts. Here are just a few recommendations to venture out and try new restaurants, we would recommend trying A&B Burgers, Beverly Depot Restaurant, Hale Street Tavern, and Depot Diner for casual dining. If you are looking to go out and celebrate a special occasion, you may want to try classic dining at Toscana Bar Italiano, Soma, or Dal Mare.
