Description

This waterfront vacation rental is a wonderful inviting family vacation home with bountiful space, located in the highly desirable area of "The Avenues" at the northern end of Rockport. Boasting 5 bedrooms/3.5 baths and the ability to comfortably sleep 12 people, this is a house to bring the extended family to gather and relax in a lovely, serene waterfront setting. Point de Chene is perfectly located for biking and walking and enjoying the stunning ocean views.

This historic home has a welcoming feel, with many large gathering areas in which to enjoy the company and the beautiful surroundings. Choose to enter via the formal front door (which has a ramp entrance, helpful to those with mobility issues) into the great room which boasts two stunning stone fireplaces (one wood burning and the other gas), multiple sitting and gaming areas, and a flat screen TV, all overlooking the vast yard and ocean. The huge sun porch is a more modern addition and has become the most-used room of the house with spectacular water views, and the perfect additional eating and gathering space. From this room the large, flat waterfront back yard can be accessed, with the slate patio at the water's edge.

Completing the main floor of the house is a formal dining room with a table that seats 10 with ease and another gorgeous stone fireplace, a moderately sized kitchen (with a small table, dishwasher and gas range) and pantry area. There is a half bath, and full sized stacked washer and drier.

Up the grand, turning staircase is the second floor which has 5 bedrooms (3 with water views) and 3 more full baths. Please note that there is one queen bedroom, with the rest of the rooms having double or single beds (or a combination thereof).

Come to Rockport and enjoy the beauty and serenity of Andrew's Point. Bring your bike and/or kayak and take off! The coast in front of the house is rocky, but on calm days, strong swimmers can swim from the rocks, or launch a kayak if you so choose (with caution--there are more gradual launching spots down the street). Enjoy long walks along the Atlantic Path, which is directly in front of the house and takes you on a waterfront hike in either direction, around the coastline. The village of Rockport is about 2 miles from the house and offers a myriad of shops, galleries, restaurants and a world class performing arts center. There are also 3 beaches to choose from: Front Beach, Back Beach and Old Garden Beach. The commuter rail to Boston, Salem and Newburyport is another wonderful way to get to the other attractions in the area. Pointe De Chene awaits!

If you need additional space to sleep more than 12 people, Mon Altre Cove House, a 6 bedroom/3.5 bath home, which sleeps 10 people, and is just a few doors up the street - and if you rent both, over 20 people can be accommodated.

We had a wonderful time at Point de Chene in the latter part of September. This is the quintessential beach cottage for family and friends- plenty of bedrooms and baths- great common areas and the most beautiful view from the enclosed porch and/or patio.

Mostly excellent! Lengthy power outage on first full day (Sunday) 2 toilet back-ups, one overflow dripped through living room ceiling. These are old toilets and might need some attention/replacement. We were able to deal with this. We appreciated the coffee filters and spices and the workable kitchen! Spectacular views.

We spent a wonderful week with our adult children and grandchildren in this charming old home in early August. We were all impressed with its location and breathtaking view. We found the property to be just as described and pictured in its listing. There was plenty of room for all of us, including room for the little ones to play. Cooking and dining supplies were plentiful and we had more than enough clean linens. It is an old home furnished with old furniture. We found this to be quaint and comfortable for the most part, but most of us would have appreciated more comfortable beds. Considering the very hot temperatures and humidity this summer, air conditioners in all of the bedrooms would have made our experience even more delightful!

The house was wonderful for our family reunion with 10 people. The large lawn going down to the rocks on the water was a great place for outdoor activities. The screened porch overlooking the ocean provided a beautiful location for many activities.

The house was beautiful inside and out. Felt right at home- could have lived on the back porch. Would stay there again! We are big nature people- watching the birds, star gazing, walking the Atlantic Path, walking Halibut Point every morning and Crane Beach every evening - perfect vacation. Ocean breeze through the house was amazing - never turned on the a/c once!

Our multi-generational family group of 14 people ages 4 months to 65 years gathered for a week-long holiday celebration spanning New Year’s. We wondered if the location right on the ocean would be appropriate for winter in Massachusetts, but it turned out to be fantastic, with a mix of snowy days and temperatures in the upper 40’s! The sunroom (with a charming glassed-in overlook from the stair landing) faced the shore, providing a 180 degree vista of sunshine sparkling on the water or crashing surf just past the property’s seawall. Downstairs, the huge “great room” space with its multiple seating areas and 2 fireplaces provided play areas for the 6 children, comfortable chairs and couches for reading and conversation, and a substantial central “library table” that became our games and computer area. The dining room was roomy enough to seat our entire group and the kitchen and dining room were very well stocked with cooking amenities and plentiful tableware and utensils. The 4 bathrooms made for short lines! The house was very clean, tastefully decorated, and well-maintained, with an abundance of bedding, blankets, and plush towels. We found Atlantic Vacation Homes responsive and easy to deal with. The residential streets were fine for pushing a stroller or long morning runs. During our stay we enjoyed several shore walks on the huge boulders, explorations of the village of Rockport, Gloucester’s harbor, and Dog Town, which were all in reasonable proximity to the house.

Beautiful location. We had three property related issues: no heat in back bedroom for one night (issue was resolved the next day), smoke detector in attic was chirping (issue was resolved in 2 days), no internet connection 2 days (issue was not resolved before we left). The property was clean and well stocked, but in need of maintence (wallpaper in poor condition, floors were tilted) Kitchen had everything you would need, towels were new. It was a shame we had to spend so much time delaing with the rental company with the issues outlined above.
Manager response on 2015-10-26 - Response from AVH Realty Inc
On behalf of the rental company, we thank you for your patronage. We responded immediately to your calls including one on Sunday morning before 7 and the issues were resolved quickly by all involved including a service call to the house. Several additional service calls were made to your house to resolve the chirping smokes (oh that change of seasons!) The internet situation was beyond our control. We worked hard on your behalf.

I hate to give this a good review (as I want to hog it all for us!) but it was such a great trip. We've stayed towards Long Beach in the past, this is our first year in Pigeon Cove - we loved it. Felt so much closer to Bearskin Neck, loved being RIGHT on the rocks (which folks visited daily) and the house was wonderful. Lots of dishes, the towels I can't get over (better than the ones I have at home!), lots of utensils - was all just fantastic. Mahalo mahalo to the owner and AVH - great job and thank you!

Ten family members had the PLEASURE of renting this BEAUTIFUL home located on Andrews Point in Rockport, MA. Many traditional aspects of this antique house have been preserved from 1881 including the stone fireplaces, the built in woodwork, the beautiful center staircase and so much more. There are photographs on the wall showing this house next to a hotel and its own 134 year old history. We did not run the air conditioning at all and instead used the fans that were provided for cooling. We chose to to breathe the fresh salt air as much as possible and we opened up all the windows during our stay. There were plenty of new towels and bedding. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils and cooking equipment. We even grilled out for a meal. The washing machine and dryer worked perfectly. We also liked that there are support bars in the bathrooms for a more senior member of our family. The shower head was removable in the bathroom we used. The charm and character of this house from a bygone era is breathtaking! We spent many hours playing games on the lawn in front of the ocean. We ate every meal out on the glassed in porch. We played board games on the table on the porch too. There was a place in the rocks where one could sit and be soaked by the waves rolling in. We did not swim or boat off the rocks as we found it too challenging. Our family had a wonderful time and would like to personally thank the owner for permitting us to rent her home. This home is filled with character from a different time and we really enjoyed out stay!!!

The house is just perfect and was in great condition when we arrived. Everything was in place and clean. The kitchen is full-equipped with a lot of everything to prepare a good meal and set a nice table. The sheets and towels were in large quantites and were like new.
And the location... Just amazing! A lot of place to play with the kids. And the ocean right there at your feet... We would have spent a month.
Since we had a very hot week, the fact that there was no climatisation on the second floor (where all the rooms are) was an inconvenient to some of our people even if there were many fans. It should be mentioned in the ad.
Finally, we recommend to go to Long Beach. It is just a 15 minute drive.
